What is a natural swimming pool?

You may be surprised to learn the concept of creating a natural swimming pool in a garden goes back to the 1980s, in Austria.

The Austrians understood the health benefits of swimming in natural water, as well as the positive effect they have on the environment.

Natural pools are now a common feature in Europe, as well as North America, Australia and New Zealand.

Where parts of the world are leading, here in Britain we are quickly catching up with more and more people wanting a natural pool to feature in their gardens.

Why do our clients love our natural pools?

  • They are better for the environment than a conventional swimming pool. To a large degree self-cleaning, they simply use plants, nature and low-energy pumps – far kinder to our environment and without the use of chemicals.
  • Natural pools act as a mini ecosystem, with the plants filtering out contaminants and removing nutrients from the water, while the pump ensures the water circulates and aerates through gravel beds. The result…crystal clear, silky soft water, a delight to swim in.
  • Natural pools are surprisingly low maintenance, with just a little effort needed to prune and tidy the plants. Unlike a conventional pool, they never need draining.
  • Ever changing with the seasons, our pools remain a haven for wildlife and plants all year round. Even in the colder months, they continue to provide a marvellous habitat.

How does a natural pool work?

Our pools are divided into two areas – the deeper, swimming zone and the more shallow planting zone.

The shallow water in the planting zone warms quickly in the sun, feeding into the swimming zone allowing for use all year round.

And even on a chilly day, if you don’t feel like braving a swim, you can sit and catch some winter sunshine while relaxing by the water.
